The Messiah, composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, is an oratorio in English, with a scriptural text, drafted by Charles Jennens, from the King James Bible, and the version of the Psalms included in the Book of Common Prayer.  


The first performance took place in Dublin 13 April 1742 and the London premiere nearly a year later.
 

It retraces, through engaging melodies, the birth, the passion, crucifixion  and resurrection of Christ.
