Welcome to an extraordinary evening of classical music, a journey through fairy- tale enchantment and the overwhelming intensity of piano virtuosity. This evening we will be accompanied by two masterpieces that represent the heart of Russian musical art: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite and Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2.
Part One: Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a – Tchaikovsky
The Nutcracker Suite takes us on a journey through Hoffmann's famous fairy tale, immersed in an enchanted world, where reality and dream merge in an irresistible musical tale. Tchaikovsky, with his melodic and orchestral skill, gives us a sensory experience made of brilliant sound colors and dreamy atmospheres.
Part Two: Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 – Rachmaninov
In the second part, we change register with one of the most beloved concertos in the piano repertoire. Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 is a true apotheosis of romantic passion. After a dramatic opening, with solemn piano chords, the work unfolds in a series of overwhelming and pathos-filled themes. The virtuosity of the performer constantly dialogues with the orchestra in a confrontation between moments of intimate lyricism and grandiose outbursts. This concerto, also known as a work of Rachmaninov’s personal rebirth, expresses a unique emotional intensity, capable of deeply touching the listener.
We are certain that this evening will thrill you, taking you from the enchantment of a fairy-tale world to the power of human emotions.
