In the evocative setting of St. Paul’s Within the Walls Church, the audience is invited to experience a concert of great artistic and spiritual value, exploring some of the most significant expressions of the nineteenth-century repertoire.

The evening opens with Carl Czerny’s Concerto for Piano Four Hands, performed by Barbara Cattabiani and Claudia Agostini. This work highlights the brilliant and virtuosic dialogue between the two pianists, showcasing Czerny’s characteristic formal elegance and luminous musical writing.

At the heart of the program lies Gioachino Rossini’s Stabat Mater, one of the composer’s most profound and moving sacred works. In this masterpiece, the dramatic power of the liturgical text merges with a musical language rich in lyricism and expressive tension, creating a deeply moving sonic meditation.

The concert concludes with Rossini’s “Tutto cangia e il ciel s’abbella”, a piece of intense cantabile beauty and refined expressiveness, in which the composer reveals his extraordinary ability to unite melodic immediacy with emotional depth.

The performance features the Orchestra Sinfonica Città di Roma and the Accademia Vocale Romana Choir, conducted by Lorenzo Macrì, with the participation of a distinguished quartet of soloists. The continuous dialogue between solo voices, choir, and orchestra finds its natural and ideal setting within the sacred atmosphere of the church.

St. Paul’s within the Walls Church

ST. PAUL’S WITHIN THE WALLS CHURCH
The 19th-century church of St. Paul within the Walls is an Anglican church located in the city centre of Rome and it has always hosted classical music performers and singers because of its fine acoustics. Built in 1873, it was the first non-Catholic Roman church to be built inside the walls of Rome.
The Church’s atmosphere becomes utterly magic at night, when the moonlight pierces through the rose windows and the candles enlighten the nave in a religious silence. Abandon yourself to the beauty of our concerts in a suggestive atmosphere.
An incredible intimate experience in the heart of the eternal city, at the border between past and future.
