Background & Synopsis:
First premiered in Rome in 1900, Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca is one of the world's most intense and beloved operas. Set in Rome in June 1800, the story opens precisely inside the Church of Sant'Andrea della Valle, where the painter Mario Cavaradossi is working on a portrait and helping a political fugitive. The passionate love between Cavaradossi and the famous singer Floria Tosca is tragically disrupted by the ruthless Baron Scarpia, chief of the secret police.
In this special Highlights performance, set within the intimate atmosphere of the magnificent Sacristy, audiences will be swept away by the opera's most celebrated musical peaks — including "Recondita armonia", "Vissi d'arte", and "E lucevan le stelle" — hearing Puccini's most iconic and beloved arias performed live where the drama was conceived.
